This policy covers ChessCoach, the iOS and macOS chess coaching app. We built ChessCoach to keep as little of your data on our servers as possible — most of the app works entirely on your device.
Game data. Your games, moves, and puzzle progress are stored only on your device. We do not upload, sync, or back up this data to any server.
Coaching requests. When you use ChessCoach Pro (the coach feature), the current board position and your question are sent to our managed coaching backend so a chess engine and language model can generate an explanation. We do not retain this data beyond what is needed to serve the request and enforce your subscription's usage limits.
Subscription data. If you subscribe to ChessCoach Pro, Apple and our payments partner (RevenueCat) process your purchase and provide us a subscriber identifier and entitlement status. We do not receive or store your payment details — Apple handles billing directly.
Coaching request data is used solely to generate the explanation you asked for and to enforce fair-use limits on the managed coaching service. It is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used to train third-party models beyond what your chosen AI provider's standard API terms require.
Subscription status is used only to determine whether ChessCoach Pro features are available to you.
Since game data lives on your device, deleting the app deletes your data. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your device's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
If you use your own Gemini API key (the "Bring your own key" option in Coach Settings) instead of ChessCoach Pro, your coaching requests go directly to Google's Gemini API under Google's own privacy terms, not ours.
